Workshop Overhead Crane

Workshop overhead crane is designed for efficient and safe lifting of goods that need to be manufactured or repaired in the machine shop. It can vary widely in terms of specifications and configurations. Our overhead crane can be designed with load capacity from 1 ton to over 300 tons, and it comes in four main configurations to suit your specific lifting applications, including single girder, double girder, top running and underhung system. We can help you design the most appropriate solution for the job.

Types of Workshop Overhead Crane

There are mainly four types of workshop cranes designed for general lifting purposes. Each type has its own pros and cons.

  • Single girder overhead crane

Single girder overhead crane is engineered for light duty or moderate service. It typically lifts under 25 tons with span length less than 31.5m. The hoist and trolley most commonly run on the bottom flange of the bridge girder, thus it offers less lifting height than a double girder crane. The single girder crane tends to be less expensive since it requires simpler hoist and trolley design, less maintenance and easier installation.

AQ-LD single girder workshop overhead crane parameters:

  • Load capacity: 1-25t
  • Span: 7.5-31.5m
  • Lifting height: 6-30m
  • Lifting speed: 0.3-8m/min
  • Hoist running speed: 20m/min
  • Crane running speed: 20m/min
  • Work duty: A3, A4

  • Double girder workshop crane

Double girder overhead crane is ideal for heavy duty applications, and it can handle over 450 tons. The trolley and hoist generally run on top of the bridge girders, thus the crane provides more lifting height.

Whether the cranes come in single girder or double girder design, they are equally rigid in structure – meaning they provide equal strength and durability for the job.

AQ-QD double girder overhead crane for workshop parameters:

  • Load capacity: 5-450t
  • Span: 10.5-31.5m
  • Lifting height: 6-24m
  • Lifting speed: 2.1-11.5m/min
  • Trolley running speed: 27-40m/min
  • Crane running speed: 42-75m/min
  • Work duty: A3-A7

  • Top running overhead crane

Top running crane is the most commonly used overhead crane system. It can be configured to handle small to very large loads. The crane is supported by the building columns or engineering columns depending on the structure of your facility.

AQ-LH double girder overhead crane for workshop parameters:

  • Load capacity: 5-50t
  • Span: 10.5-31.5 m
  • Lifting height: 6-30m
  • Lifting speed: 0.18-8m/min
  • Trolley running speed: 20m/min
  • Crane running speed: 20m/min
  • Work duty: A3, A4

  • Underhung workshop lifting crane

Underhung crane, or under running crane, is ideal for small capacity light duty applications. It is designed to be supported from the building roof structure when the facility height is inadequate or there are no columns in the facility. The underhung design offers excellent side approach and maximizes utilization of the building space. Since the bridge girder and hoist hang underneath the runways, these cranes offer less lifting height.

  • Hoist running speed: 20m/min
  • Crane running speed: 20m/min
  • Work duty: A3, A4

Selecting The Right Crane for Your Application

In the selection of an overhead crane, you may be asking yourself, “what kind of crane do I need for my machine shop?” There are a few things to consider in order to resolve this issue.

  • What type of crane do you need? single girder, double girder, top running, or underhung system?
  • What is your required workshop overhead crane specification (lifting capacity, span, lifting height, lifting speed, hook coverage, etc)?
  • Duty cycle of the crane
  • Do you need a runway? If so, how long is the runway?
  • What type of control do you need? push-button pendant, wireless remote control or cabin control?
  • Other special requirements

It is critical to choose the right crane for your application since it can maximize efficiency, safety and reliability for the material handling job. If you are unsure as to which type of overhead crane is right for you, please contact us at any time and discuss your lifting requirements with one of our experts.

Steel Structure For Workshop And Overhead Crane

We offer steel structures for workshop if you are looking for constructing your own facility. The steel structure is a cost-effective choice to erect your workshop as it provides easy and quick construction, high strength, long service life and simple installation. What’s more, you can re-design your building to fit future uses since the steel structure can be easily modified, strengthened or extended.

Backed by experienced engineers, we are able to design the structure to take any kind of form and size to suit your project requirements.

Overhead Crane Components

We offer both standard range and custom design to suit varied lifting requirements of customers.

  • Bridge

The bridge consists of one or two girders and two end trucks. It supports the hoist and trolley to lift and lower a load.

  • Hoist and trolley

The hoist trolley mechanism is used to raise, hold and lower the load. There are different types of lifting media that can be fitted to the hoist, including wire rope and chain.

  • Crane travelling mechanism

The crane runs on rail track that can be mounted on top of the runway beams or hang underneath.

  • Controls

There are three main control options for you to choose from, pendant control, wireless remote control and cabin control. Our overhead cranes come standard with pushbutton pendant. Wireless remote control provides a safer lifting operation since it allows the operator to stand well clear of the crane and the load. Cabin control is recommended for a faster crane or heavier duty application.

  • Safety equipment

A range of safety equipment are available to ensure a safe lifting operation, like overload limiter, limit switches, anti-collision device, warning horns and lights.
